The ABC Treehouse Exhibition Program:

The ABC Treehouse offers an inspiring place to bring ideas and initiatives to life. Along with a busy program of Book Events, Workshops, Performances and Community Events, the ABC Treehouse hosts a vibrant Exhibition Program, offering artists a unique opportunity to showcase their work. In addition, we host a semi-permanent exhibit of our in-house collection, and are the Netherlands source for the StoryPeople collection.

If you are interested in exhibiting your work at the Treehouse, please look over the guidelines below before contacting us. Although we try to answer all queries, our workload sometimes precludes this. You will have a better chance of receiving a reply if your query indicates you've reviewed these guidelines.

Exhibiting at the ABC Treehouse - things to know before submitting an exhibition proposal…

A primary goal of the ABC Treehouse is 'Community Building'. With regards to our exhibition program, we are specifically interested in building community among the international and Dutch artists living and working in the Netherlands, and the public who visits their shows and may collect their work. For this and other reasons, we are unlikely to be able to work with you at this time if the Netherlands is not your primary home or workplace.

The ABC Treehouse is what is known as an 'alternative exhibition space' - we are not a traditional 'gallery'. This means that exhibitions co-exist with the other events and workshops sharing our facilities. So if you need a quiet space, devoted only to your art, we are not the place for you. However, if you find inspiration in the community atmosphere and creative exchange of ideas that grow in this kind of environment, then we are glad to meet you!

The ABC Treehouse is also a do-it-yourself space. While we will assist you every step of the way, you and your fellow artists will be responsible for all aspects of installing, maintaining, and promoting your exhibit. We do not 'represent' artists; we are not agents or managers. You will represent yourself and sell your own work. Because of this and our 'Community Building' mission, we ask that (excluding extenuating circumstances) you also be in residence during your exhibit: available for one or more 'shifts' to meet your public and represent your work.

The ABC Treehouse does not have a 'house style'. We are happy to consider any medium that can be shown to its advantage in our venue. To get an idea of the type of shows we have hosted, visit our Exhibition Archives.

If you've never held an exhibition before, the ABC Treehouse is a perfect place to "learn the ropes", from the ground up. If you're a long-time professional, looking for a casual but professionally oriented place to show your work, you'll appreciate that the ABC Treehouse is an intimate, centrally located venue, easily accessible to your clients.

How to submit exhibition proposals:

Via the Internet
Send an email to treehouse@abc.nl. Include a short description of your idea, and the names of any artists already committed to the exhibition. It is helpful to send a jpg, or a link to your website(s), with this email. Please do not email entire portfolios or Power Point presentations unless requested.

Via Post
Please send your proposal (maximum: one A4 page), with any accompanying visual materials to:
